HTC One on sale in the UK next week

The HTC One is hitting the UK next week! HTC said we wouldn’t see the flagship handset until the end of March or beginning of April, due to a shortage of parts, and now has announced it’ll be with us in just a few days, our colleagues at CNET News have learned.

It hasn’t given an exact date, so keep a look out in your local phone shop.

The One was delayed because HTC had trouble sourcing components for the Ultrapixel camera inside. It wasn’t just a shortage of parts though — HTC was cussed by its suppliers too, seeing as it’s no longer considered a ‘tier-one’ company.

“HTC has had difficulty in securing adequate camera components as it is no longer a tier-one customer,” an unnamed HTC exec told The Wall Street Journal. In other words, suppliers don’t mention HTC in the same breath as Apple and Samsung anymore.

The One was supposed to launch here in the UK on 15 March. HTC is confident it won’t disappoint though, saying in a statement: “We appreciate our customers’ patience, and believe that once they have the phone in their hands they will agree that it has been worth the wait.”

We gave The One an impressive four stars in our review, though the new camera tech was something of a let-down. HTC claims each pixel is bigger than normal to let in more light, so it only needs 4 megapixels. We went further in-depth with the One’s snapper, and found that while it’s great for macro and well-lit shots, it pales in comparison to the iPhone 5 for general outdoor use.

The One does have a host of photo cropping and editing tools on board though, as well as Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and the HTC Sense 5 UI. Make no mistake, there’s plenty to like.
