The colossus is unleashed! HTC’s maximised, maxi-sized Android super-blower, the One Max, is galumphing across the UK, free from the network cage. Which is one way of saying you can buy the enormous thing SIM-free online for a smidge under £600.
Unlocked Mobiles has the cheapest price for the 5.9-inch HTC One Max I’ve seen, at £585, but it does stick £6 on for next-day delivery, which isn’t optional. Clove has the same minimum delivery fee, with a base price of £590.
Handtec quotes £588, but doesn’t yet have stock, so delivery charges aren’t shown. It’s expecting handsets in later this week. MobileFun is the most expensive at £600.
If you want to get the Max subsidised on a contract, it’s only on Vodafone. Big Red will flog it to you on a 24-month 4G-ready deal with £49 upfront and a hefty £47 each month.
The One Max is a mighty beast with the beauty of one of the most gorgeous phones of the year — the sleek metallic 4.7-inch HTC One. Reviewing it a few weeks ago, Andy commended its “big, bright, bold display” but cautioned it was too big and heavy for most people.
Other options at the larger end of the phone scale include the powerful Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Sony Xperia Z Ultra.
