Smartphone maker HTC, which has watched its revenue slide and competition mount, is losing two executives, according to Bloomberg.
HTC Chief Marketing Officer Ben Ho has resigned and will be replaced by Chairwoman Cher Wang, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing people who claim to have knowledge of the situation. Meanwhile, HTC president of engineering and operations, Fred Liu, has also resigned. Liu’s departure appears to be a retirement, according to Bloomberg’s sources, and he will stay on through the end of the year while his replacement is found.
In a statement to CNET, HTC said Wang did not take over as the chief marketing officer, but that she is overseeing marketing as part of her role as executive chairwoman.
Taiwan-based HTC’s revenue has slid for the last 11 consecutive quarters. Although it is offering one of the better Android-based smartphones on the market, the HTC One M8, the company is still having trouble nabbing significant market share.
Wang, who co-founded the company in 1997, briefly stepped away from the firm when things were going well. However, she came back to the company last year to take on a more active role. Wang believes that the right mix of product quality and executives could help the company change its luck.
HTC has not publicly announce the resignation of the two executives. CNET has contacted HTC for comment and will update this story when we have more information.
