HTC Golf revealed in first official pic

With a name like HTC Golf we were expecting this phone to rock up with a caddy bag slung over its shoulder. Or perhaps some checked trousers. Well now the first official snap of the handset has leaked, and sadly it looks like our mock-up was slightly wide of the mark.

This first snap comes courtesy of Pocketnow, and shows the HTC Golf looking pretty much like every other HTC handset in existence. Which is a bit of a disappointment. What’s the point of a name like Golf if you can’t have a bit of fun with it?

In case you were on the 19th hole when news of the Golf broke, it’s an entry-level handset sporting a 5-megapixel camera. It runs Ice Cream Sandwich, with a processor somewhere under 1GHz. Resolution on the 3.5-inch screen is said to be 480×320-pixels, with 512MB of RAM and 4GB on-board storage. It’ll also come with a microSD slot for expanding that.

Golf is just a codename, unfortunately, which explains its non-clubhouse themed appearance. When it hits the shelves it’ll be known as the Wildfire C, joining the Wildfire and Wildfire S in the line-up.

HTC’s One S handset recently suffered a chipping issue, with the underside picking up unsightly silver marks. HTC has promised a fix is on the way for disgruntled customers. Golf… chipping… there’s a joke in there somewhere but I can’t think of it. And let’s hope it doesn’t suffer the same misfortunes as the One S.

Times are tough for HTC, with its revenue falling a colossal 35 per cent in the first three months of the year. But then a lot of companies seem to be suffering lately. Not Samsung though. Or Apple, surprisingly enough.

Can HTC’s One range bring back the company’s glory days? And will a handset like the Golf convince the budget crowd to choose HTC? Let me know in the comments below, or over on our Facebook page.
