HTC goes for gold with new One

HTC is apparently getting into the gold-colored game with a new One smartphone.

Finland-based retailer Gigantti on Monday started selling a gold-colored HTC One, featuring a 4.7-inch display and 1.7GHz quad-core processor. The handset comes with the same design as previous HTC One models, but boasts the long-rumored gold finish. HTC already sells versions in silver, black, blue, and red.

Rumors surfaced in September that HTC was considering launching a gold-colored smartphone. The company has remained tight-lipped on those plans and has yet to even confirm the golden HTC One’s existence. Whether the Gigantti listing is a mistake or a sign of more rollouts is unknown.

CNET has contacted HTC for comment. We will update this story when we have more information.

In addition to possibly joining the gold-colored market, HTC’s Google Play edition of the One smartphone is getting its Android 4.4 (KitKat) update. Current owners can access the over-the-air update and start running Google’s latest Android build starting on Monday.
