If you thought HTC was going to sit back and let Samsung and Motorola soak up all attention, think again. Today, HTC and Sprint introduced the HTC Evo 4G Design, the fifth model in their Evo series and the first to offer world roaming capabilities and a wallet-friendly price tag.
On sale October 23 for $99.99 with a two-year contract and after a $50 mail-in rebate, the Evo 4G Design is a dual-mode (CDMA/GSM) world phone, so you can continue to make calls and receive data while traveling abroad.
The Android Gingerbread handset also features a smaller design than previous models, measuring 4.8 inches tall by 2.4 inches wide by 0.47 inch thick and 5.2 ounces. By comparison, the HTC Evo 3D measures 5 inches tall by 2.6 inches wide by 0.48 inch thick and 6 ounces. As a result of the more compact design, the screen is a smidge smaller but we think people will manage with a 4-inch, WVGA (960×540) touch screen.
There are some other trade-offs for the lower price tag. For example, you get a single-core 1.2GHz processor instead of a dual-core chipset, but you still get goodies like 4G support, a 5-megapixel camera and front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera, and HTC Sense. All in all, not a bad deal for $100, right?
