HTC Droid DNA leaks, has 5

HTC is looking to cash in on the recent success of big phones by launching its very own 5-inch mobile-cum-tablet, SlashGear reports.

A picture of the HTC Droid DNA has come our way courtesy of @evleaks, the Twitter account behind a couple of previous leaks, that proved to be right on the money. And it’s said to have the highest resolution display of any mobile device, at a staggering 440 pixels per inch (ppi). To put that in context, the iPhone‘s retina display is 326ppi. So the screen on this should be an absolute beauty.

With 440ppi, it’ll have a resolution of 1,080×1,920 pixels, which is the same as a 1080p TV. But on a 5-inch screen that fits in your hand. Madness.

The Droid DNA will be out in the US in early December, according to @evleaks. Though there’s no word on whether us Brits will see it. If we do, I’m guessing the name will change, as with all HTC Droid handsets. I’m putting my money on something superlative, as with the HTC Incredible S or HTC Sensation XL. Maybe that could be it actually, the HTC Superlative. It certainly has a ring to it.

The rest of the specs are said to be similar to the HTC J Butterfly, the 5-inch blower HTC recently announced for Japan. So it should have an 8-megapixel camera on the back that shoots 1080p video — for watching on the 1080p screen — 16GB storage, and 2GB of RAM. Android Jelly Bean should also be the order of the day, though version 4.1 rather than 4.2. A Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor should keep things running nice and smoothly.

This looks like an absolute beast, and a real challenger to the Galaxy Note 2. If the Note 2 sales are anything to go by, expect it to be seriously popular. Are you excited about the HTC Droid DNA? Are large phones the way forward? Let me know what you reckon in the comments, or on Facebook.
