An invite has hit the inboxes of the US press, inviting them to an HTC event on 20 September. And rumour is it’ll be unveiling an Android phone aimed at women. Yes, companies are persisting with this. Let’s hope it’s not as patronising as some.
The invite doesn’t reveal much, but “Come celebrate in style with HTC” hints at a phone full of ‘lifestyle’ features. And while the Bliss isn’t quite as over the top as some devices, rumours are it is aimed squarely at women.
According to a source, HTC held focus groups of females in their 20s and 30s to see what they wanted from a phone. And — surprise surprise — it wasn’t a pink monstrosity that’d been blasted by a shotgun filled with Swarovski crystals. So what did they want?
The Bliss is said to look like a typical HTC phone, close to the Desire S and Desire Z. The colour is rumoured to be a more muted green (matching the invite’s background), to have a “calming” effect. A rubber back gives girls a better grip on the handset.
But the accessories is where it gets interesting, if the rumours are to be believed. A ‘charm indicator’ fits to your purse or bag and lights up to let you know you’ve a message or missed call, to save constant rooting around and checking the handset. There’s said to be a wireless charging dock with speakers, a square speaker that attaches to a car visor, and a matching Bluetooth headset.
This is all rumour at the moment, but HTC handsets do have a habit of leaking. Others that could be on show include the HTC Ruby, a 4.3-inch screen handset with a 1.5GHz processor, or the HTC Holiday, which is said to have a 1.2GHz processor, huge 4.5-inch screen, and 8-megapixel camera.
