HTC Android

HTC has shown it can accomplish Android awesomeness with the Hero and Magic, but, in our heart of hearts, we want to see a big-screen, Snapdragon-powered phone like the HD2 running the little green robot. If we can believe a leaked roadmap for HTC’s 2010 Android phones, our dreams could become a reality next year.

Android fan blog Android and Me points to a cornucopia of leaked slides over at xda-developers.com that purports to show what we can look forward to. HTC wouldn’t comment on the images, so this may all be wishful thinking, but that’s our favourite kind of thinking, so let’s get stuck in.

We’re the kind of kids who like to eat dessert first, so we’re going to skip right to the sticky, sweet treat that is the HTC Bravo (pictured). The specs say it’s got a 94mm (3.7-inch) AMOLED capacitive touchscreen and a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. It also flaunts 7.2Mbps HSDPA, Wi-Fi and a 5-megapixel camera with an LED light.

The slides also show a Hero-like phone called ‘Legend’, which replaces the traditional Android trackball with an optical trackpad of the type used on the BlackBerry Bold 9700. The ‘Salsa’ takes a leaf out of the BlackBerry‘s book too, with a full Qwerty keyboard sitting below its touchscreen. Another new look for an Android handset could come in the form of the ‘Tide’, which has an alphanumeric keyboard, as well as a touchscreen.

The slides are labelled ‘T-Mobile NATCO DAY’, which could mean we’re likely to see some of these phones in the UK. It could also stand for ‘not always trustworthy chat online’.
