There’s no shortage of file managing apps for Android devices. Astro File Manager has long been my personal favorite, though the Play store is full of worthy alternatives.
However, Google has included a bare-bones file manager in Android 6.0 Marshmallow, as pointed out by How-To Geek. For those who don’t need a file manager on a regular basis, it should be enough to get the job done when the need arises. Here’s how to access it:
- Launch the Settings app.
- Tap on Storage & USB.
- Scroll to the bottom and select Explore.
A few seconds later, a screen will come up displaying the various folders and files stored on your device. You can then move, edit, delete and manipulate files as needed.
The new file manager, while minimal, is a welcome addition to Android, and one area Google will hopefully continue adding functionality to in the future.
