iOS 9 has a neat new feature where it scans your email inbox and finds events mentioned within the body of the message. It then uses that information to add tentative events to your calendar, in an effort to ensure you don’t forget about that dinner you had planned but never actually put on the schedule.
The feature is useful, but the potential is also there for it to clutter up your calendar with stuff you don’t really care about.
For those who would rather have complete control over what’s placed into a calendar, you can disable the feature with just a few taps:
- Launch the iOS Settings app.
- Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
- Scroll to the bottom of the list, where you’ll find a switch to disable the feature. Note the warning just below it — disabling the feature will remove any tentative events.
I wasn’t sure how well the feature would work until it found a flight confirmation in my inbox and added it, complete with flight number and reservation details to my calendar. It’s a handy feature, no doubt about it.
Should you change your mind and prefer to have the service active again, just retrace the steps outlined above and slide the switch to the On position.
