Google has transformed the old Nexus One stomping grounds into a gallery of Android handsets. Starting immediately, you can visit google.com/phone to search the ever-growing list of Android phones and compare them with one another. Right now, the only devices listed are those marked as having the “with Google” experience. Google defines that as phones that have been optimized with easy access to Search, Voice Search, Google Talk, Google Maps, Gmail, Sync, YouTube and Android Market (where available). I find this somewhat interesting because phones like Verizon’s Droid Incredible and U.S. Cellular’s HTC Desire are listed on the site but both lack the “with Google” branding on the back.
Other options available to visitors are comparing phones across brand and carriers, browsing full specifications, and even clicking to purchase through respective providers. It will be interesting to see how this site evolves over time as the company adds more devices and carriers. Will Google add handsets like the Verizon Fascinate even though it eschews Google Search in favor of Microsoft Bing? Where do tablets fit in with all of this? Even though we are yet to hear anything official from the likes of HTC and Motorola, I’m sure there will be tablets that have a full Google experience.
