Google Nexus 5 with Android KitKat in best leak yet

This is our clearest look yet at the Google Nexus 5, the hotly-anticipated 5-inch follow-up to the Nexus 4 and the first smart phone to bring us Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat.

Built by LG and rumoured to be codenamed the LG D820 or Hammerhead, the Nexus 5 is set to show off the next version of Android, Android 4.4 KitKat, for the first time.

We’ve seen leaked screenshots that show off Android KitKat and revealed more details of the Nexus 5 such as a 5-inch screen with 1,080×1,920 resolution, but this is the best snap of the actual phone so far.

We’re hoping to see KitKat in October, a date revealed by the chocolatiers at Nestlé, who lend their name to Google for the next Android update. KitKat maker Nestlé may know its way round a tasty snack, but it’s not so hot on aggressive promotion of powdered milk in the third world and general human rights. Before Google adopted the famous four-fingered chocolate bar for the next update, it was due to be called Key Lime Pie.

Our first glimpse of the Nexus 5 was in an official Google video celebrating the unwrapping of a KitKat statue at Google headquarters, joining previous versions also named after sweet treats: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean. Since then we’ve seen mock-ups, screenshots, benchmarks and even a phone abandoned in a bar, but hopefully this actual photo shows that the new Nexus is close to being released.
