The Google Nexus 5 is a hit — it must be, because Google can’t keep up with demand as delivery dates for the black version slip once again. Order now and your new phone could take up to three weeks to arrive.
The Nexus 5 went on sale less than a week ago. The white version leaves Google’s lock-up by Friday so should drop through your door by this time next week, but the Google Play online store says the black model — both 16GB and 32GB versions — won’t be dispatched from the warehouse for 2-3 weeks.
If you already ordered, chances are you’ll have phone by now, or by later in the week.
The slipping delivery times for the black Nexus 5 remind us of the Nexus 4 debacle. The previous Nexus smart phone sold out instantly and stayed out of stock for months in a disastrous supply snafu that saw Google and LG, the phone’s manufacturer, falling over themselves to blame each other for the problems.
Fortunately, Google Play isn’t the only place you can get yourself a new Nexus: if you want to buy the Nexus 5 with a phone contract, it’s available from mobile networks including Three and O2 on deals from £32.
If you already have a contract, the 16GB Nexus 5 costs £299 on its own, and the 32GB model will set you back £339. If you’re tempted, click here for the Nexus 5 UK price and release date.
The Nexus 5 is the first phone to show off Android 4.4 KitKat, the latest version of Google’s software for mobile phones and tablets.
