Google I/O to showcase new smartwatches

This episode of CNET Update will prep you for what news to expect at the Google I/O conference on Wednesday. One focus will be around smartwatches and the Android Wear

operating system. CNET has learned that Samsung will use the event to debut its first Android Wear smartwatch.

You can also expect Google to talk about Google Glass

. On Monday, the headgear went on sale outside the U.S., and Google began selling designer frames and shades by Diane Von Furstenberg.

Health is another topic Google will likely touch on. Forbes reports that Google Fit will be a new app that collects health-tracking data from many types of devices and apps. It stands to be a direct competitor to Apple’s HealthKit.

But one new aspect of Google may not get much of a spotlight on Wednesday. Google acquired Dropcam, the Web-connected camera for DIY home monitoring. Google-owned Nest Labs spent $555 million to bring Dropcam into the Google smart-home family of products.
