Like most mammals, I like shiny, flashy things. And things that glow. If they can flash and glow at the same time, so much the better.

Today only, and while supplies last, Ellumiglow has the Future Illuminations Remyx LED sound-synchronized earphones for $25 shipped. That’s after applying coupon code nojoke — because this ain’t no April Fool — at checkout. The regular price is $50, and the best price I’ve seen elsewhere is $40.

Available in your choice of red, green or blue, the Remyx LED looks like a fairly ordinary set of earphones, complete with an inline microphone and play/pause button for hands-free calls and music control, respectively.

However, when the lights get low, things get cool: the entire cord glows in the aforementioned color. And if you toggle Sound Active mode, the LEDs will pulse in response to the music that’s playing.

Beyond that, there’s not a ton of information to be had about these (from either Ellumiglow or Future Illuminations’ own product page). I do know the Remyx relies on a rechargeable battery (good for about 5 hours, according to the company), one that charges via an included micro-USB cable.

What’s not clear is whether you get more than one set of silicone tips or, more important, whether the sound is any good. I’ve found exactly one review (on Future Illuminations’ site), and it’s from a user. (On the plus side, it’s five stars.)

To me, this looks like a really cool product, something sure to be prized by anyone under 25 — and probably most folks over. Can’t say I’d spend $40-50 on it, but $25 out the door? Awfully tempting. And certainly a great gift. Your thoughts?

Bonus deal: I love utilities that make computing a little bit easier, and today I bring you two that are temporarily free! Ending today, BitsDuJour has turbo-charged Clipboard manager Clipstory (for Windows) for free. Unlike Windows’ standard Clipboard, Clipstory keeps a complete history of everything you copy, thus making it a snap to revisit (and reuse) items later. Invaluable!

Meanwhile, SharewareOnSale has Batch File Renamer (for Windows) for free. It’s perfect for quickly renaming, say, a big batch of photos that have vague names like “IMG4041.jpg” to something more descriptive, like “Joe and Amy Wedding Reception.jpg.”
