As a general rule, headphones and beds don’t mix. The typical earbud design makes it uncomfortable at best to lie on your side, and anything worn on or over the ear? Fuhggedaboudit.
So what happens if you want to listen to music, podcasts, white noise or your favorite mindfulness-meditation app as part of your bedtime routine? It’s a challenge, to say the least.
Not anymore. For a limited time, and while supplies last, StackSocial has the Bedphones on-ear sleep headphones for $39.95 shipped. Regular price: $59.99. (Note: that link takes you to the white version; they’re also available in black.)
This is Bedphones’ second-gen product, and it features an inline microphone (in case you want to engage in pillow talk with someone not on the next pillow over), a one-button control (play/pause/skip-track), a satin eye mask and a travel case. You also get two sets of replacement foam covers for the earpieces.
Those earpieces are, needless to say, super-slim, and moldable wire loops hook over your ears to help keep them in place.
Make no mistake: The Bedphones are designed for listening comfort, not audio fidelity. That’s my takeaway after perusing the nearly 170 user reviews on Amazon, but I don’t consider that an issue. If I’m listening to a spoken meditation at low volume, who cares if the headphones aren’t Bose-quality?
The more important takeaway: The Bedphones are indeed comfortable for bedtime listening. And although some users did report durability issues, the product includes a one-year warranty.
I’m in for a pair — probably two, in fact, because I know Mrs. Cheapskate would love these. If you’re considering them as well, take note that StackSocial reports “1-2 weeks lead time,” meaning it could be 2-3 weeks before your Bedphones actually arrive.
Bonus deal: Game time! Remember a year ago when Titanfall was the hot game? Now it’s the cheap game: Amazon has Titanfall (Win) for just $5.99. This multiplayer (only) mech-combat bonanza is like Call of Duty, but with giant robots. GameSpot rated it 9 out of 10 and praised it for “[reinventing] what it feels like to play a competitive shooter.” I’m in. See you on the battlefield!
