This latest research polled smartphone users over 30 days to discover which kinds of apps they used, and which apps they were likely to pay for when browsing on the app catalogues associated with their handsets. Games again topped both charts, with 64 per cent of participants saying that they have played games during the polling period, and 93 per cent claiming that they are willing to pay for games rather than just downloading free versions.

Comparing usage on the popular phone platforms, iPhone gamers say they play games more than their Android-toting friends, claiming just under 15 hours of mobile gaming per month compared with less than 10 hours of playtime for Android smartphone owners. Those using a BlackBerry or Windows Phone handset found far less time to spend gaming, with figures below 5 hours for both platforms.
