Galaxy Note 3 ‘Neo’ leaked phablet knows six

Woah — Samsung is working on a phone called Neo. The Galaxy Note 3 Neo appears to be a low-cost addition to the Note line of big-screened blowers, with a detailed leak pointing to specs very similar to the Note 2.

Previously referred to by leakers as the Note 3 Lite, GSM Arena’s anonymous tipster reckons the Note 3 Neo has the Note 2’s 5.5-inch 720p screen, 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. Where it goes down the rabbit hole though is its hybrid six-core processor.

That’s a 1.3GHz quad-core chip paired with a 1.7GHz dual-core chip, presumably with prioritising software so tasks are assigned to the most efficient core. That should let the Neo wring more life out of its capacious 3,100mAh battery — and possibly power a race of artificially intelligent killer robot spiders to global domination.

It’s slimmer than the Note 2 at 8.6mm, runs Android 4.3, the latest but one version of Google’s software, and adds some of the Magazine interface stuff we saw at CES on the Galaxy Note Pro tablet.

The Neo could well take a red pill at the Mobile World Congress show next month, as the company seems to have ruled out the Galaxy S5 from being launched at the Barcelona shindig.

One of the myriad ways Samsung ekes out its premium brand phones’ shelf life is to make new cheaper versions with similar styling but the previous year’s innards — think Galaxy S Advance. Neo would appear to be the Note’s version.
