Galaxy Note 3 Neo costs same as the Note, but not in UK

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo will set you back as much as the full-fat Galaxy Note 3, according to the first European store to place the new phablet in its shop window.

German retailer Notebookbilliger wants 529 euros for the Note 3 Neo’s 4G model, or 499 euros for the 3G version — which is there or thereabouts the same as the Note 3’s price on the same website.

That’s weird, because the Neo packs less of a punch than its older sibling, not least a 720p screen — that’s a 265 dot-per-inch pixel density compared to the Note 3’s 386dpi. It does boast a six-core processor though — two more than the Note 3 — with a brace of 1.7GHz cores for clever tasks like graphically intensive gaming, and four 1.3GHz cores for everyday busywork.

Early prices from retailers like this don’t always reflect how much you’ll actually end up paying, but they do give a good idea. Still, we don’t need to spend too much time puzzling over this one on these shores: “The Note 3 Neo will not be coming to the UK market,” a Samsung spokesperson told this reporter.

Regardless, we’re expecting to get acquainted with the Note 3 Neo in person in a few weeks at mobile phone and tablet extravaganza Mobile World Congress. Also set to be revealed at the show is the hotly-tipped Samsung Galaxy S5 — and we’ll be there en masse to bring you the latest news, previews and hands-on first impressions of all the coolest new kit.
