Frosty white Samsung Galaxy S II coming to Sprint

Just when I thought the white smartphone craze had died down, Samsung says it plans to bring a pearly version of the Galaxy S II to Sprint for $199 on January 8.

Of course I should have known that milky-hued handsets are here to stay. First popularized by Apple’s iPhone and then adopted by its Android competition, many of this winter’s mobile devices sport a frosty skin. Motorola’s Droid Razr and the Galaxy S II on T-Mobile are a few examples.

That’s why it’s natural Sammy will push a white model of the Samsung Galaxy S II, aka the Epic 4G Touch (a mouthful I know), to Sprint customers. It’s a great product, which before the new Galaxy Nexus was the hottest piece of Android hardware available. The phone comes packed with high-end gear including a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, a beautiful 4.52 inch Super AMOLED screen, plus one of the best cameras currently offered by a handset.

The one drawback is it runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box, but guess what? Samsung had said it would bring Ice Cream Sandwich to the GSII. It hasn’t happened yet but I can dream, can’t I?

All things equal, I like having a big selection of gadgets to choose from, though black or perhaps metallic silver is more my style. If it has a touch of pricier metal, all the better.
