Google’s next flagship smartphone will, in fact, be called the Nexus 6, and it will come from Motorola. At least, that’s according to a new Android Police report.

Citing information from “a trusted source,” the Android blog created a rendered image which they allege to be indicative of the final product. Suffice it to say, the device looks like an oversize Moto X (2014) .

Powered by the “L” version of Android, the so-called Nexus 6 is said to feature a 5.9-inch display with 2,560×1,440-pixel resolution. Other key hardware could include a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization, a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter and a 3,200mAh battery.

The button configuration is a bit different than most larger smartphones; Motorola will reportedly move volume and power buttons down the side to provide easier access. The Nexus 6 should also give users front-facing stereo speakers.

Previous rumors suggest that the Motorola handset could boast a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor with 3GB of RAM. In terms of storage, a recent 9to5Google report says to look for 32GB of capacity.

I find it curious that Google could be opting to go so large with its next-gen Nexus. The first five generations saw Google building a solid “everyman” experience that has become more affordable over time. Not only might we end up with a higher price point for the 2014 model, we could also find Google alienating a huge swath of a user base that isn’t looking for a nearly 6-inch display. That is, of course, unless somehow they’ve been able to keep a 4.5-inch or 5-inch Nexus model the best-kept secret of the year.

All signs point to a Nexus 6 and Android L launch in mid-October, so we should be on alert for more details and leaks in the coming weeks.
