Here’s a late-breaking bargain for dedicated Skype customers — the voice-calling service is offering free worldwide calls for a month, if you sign up to the offer before the end of today.
The deal nabs you unlimited dialling, including to offline contacts on mobile numbers and landlines, which normally costs £8.49 per month. Not a monster saving then, but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, and worth signing up for if you’re already shelling out for the service and fancy keeping your mitts on a little more money this month.
There are a few catches, of course. Firstly, Skype will want some payment information from you when you sign up, so unless you want to start paying a monthly fee for the worldwide dialling service, you’ll need to remember to cancel the subscription.
Secondly, not every country gets mobile and landline calling. For a full breakdown check the small print on this page, but Canada, the US, China and Thailand are all included in mobile calling. There’s a fair usage policy, which sees calls automatically disconnected after two hours, at which point you need to re-dial.
You need to claim that free month before the end of today, and first-time Skypers need not apply — this offer is only available to folks who’ve had an account for more than 29 days already.
Skype is owned by Microsoft, which recently broke the news that it would be dismantling its Messenger IM software in a bid to move users onto Skype. The popular VoIP-calling service recently made its debut on Windows 8 — that’s a screenshot up there at the top.
