The first pictures of an Android-powered Samsung Celox have arrived online, providing an early look at the rumored LTE Galaxy S II device.
Word of the smartphone first surfaced last week when it was reported that Samsung was readying the device for Korean carriers. Specifications included a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 16GB storage, an 8-megapixel camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Keeping in line with other recent Samsung releases, the Celox was listed as running Android 2.3 Gingerbread with TouchWiz 4.0 UI.
Unlike the first pictures we saw of the Colex, today’s images don’t show a physical button at the bottom of the display. In fact, the Samsung Hercules, expected to launch on T-Mobile in late October, bears a striking resemblance to the Celox and features nearly identical specifications.
Rumors suggest that Verizon Wireless is readying a 4G LTE-ready Galaxy S II as part of its lineup, so it’s quite possible that we’re getting a look at that device here. Perhaps it’s the Samsung Plato?
Yet, the recent leak of Samsung’s product roadmap shows that the hardware maker was quick to dispute its overall accuracy. Revisiting that list for a moment, the Celox specifications line up perfectly with the GT-I9210.
Samsung has a major product announcement scheduled for August 29 where it’s widely assumed it will unveil U.S. iterations of the Galaxy S II. Perhaps we’ll see the Celox, or its equivalent, make a stateside debut.
