First dedicated Google Maps app comes to Android; iPad next

Google Maps is making its way to the iPad.

The search giant announced Wednesday that a new version of its Google Maps application will be the first dedicated one for Android tablets and Apple’s slates. The company hasn’t said exactly when the update will be made available to iPad owners, but the Android version is available now.

Earlier today, CNET’s Seth Rosenblatt outlined the many additions in the updated Google Maps, including improved navigation and a new Explore feature that allows users to see nearby places that are worth checking out.

All of the features available now in the Android version will be “coming soon” to the iPad and iPhone, according to Google.
