Samsung may soon launch a new, entry-level J1 smartphone, according to details obtained by tech site SamMobile.

The Samsung SM-J100 is reportedly slated to feature a 4.3-inch 480×800-pixel display and a 5-megapixel camera. Low end by today’s standards, the handset could also feature 1GB RAM with 4GB of internal storage.

Diverging from most Samsung smartphones, the J1 is said to run a 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core processor from Marvell. Rounding things out, we might be on the lookout for a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter and an 1,850mAh battery.

Like some of Samsung’s more powerful Galaxy models, the new device may come loaded with Ultra Power Saving Mode and other custom software. Samsung is expected to offer single-SIM and dual-SIM flavors with both 3G and 4G LTE connectivity.

Accompanying the specs is a small gallery of images that provide a rather clear look at the forthcoming device. Should this prove to be the final design, the J1 will more closely resemble pre-Galaxy Alpha models.

It isn’t clear when Samsung will introduce the J1, but we do have Mobile World Congress fast approaching. With roughly six weeks to go before the annual event, we could soon learn more about the new phone.
