Samsung has today whet the appetite of owners of the Galaxy Note, announcing that its Ice Cream Sandwich update for the device will come with several new applications for its S-Pen accessory, as well as exclusive levels of the new game Angry Birds Space.
Fans of the Angry Birds series will be excited to hear that the Galaxy Note firmware includes the option to unlock 30 exclusive levels of the new Angry Birds Space game if the game is unlocked in the first three months after the update is released. Angry Birds Space was released worldwide today, 22 March, on the Android, iOS and PC platforms.
The update is expected to arrive in Q2 this year, but will be subject to the same carrier-approval process that all new smartphone software needs to undergo in Australia.
Three new S-Pen applications were revealed in Samsung’s statement regarding the update. My Story is a new tool allowing Note users to create digital postcards for celebrations, where these cards can include a full range of multimedia created on the phone. There will also be Shape Match and Formula Match apps, which Samsung describes as being capable of “correcting and digitising geometric shapes, and even to solve numeric formulas hand drawn with the S Pen”.
The features have not been confirmed for the upcoming Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet, although it seems likely that these feature will be replicated for the larger-format device.
