EA founder raises $6.5 million for children’s learning game

EA founder Trip Hawkins has raised a bundle of cash to build out his learning game for children.

Hawkins’ startup, If You Can Company, raised $6.5 million in a Series A funding round led by venture-capital firm Greylock Partners, the company confirmed to TechCrunch on Wednesday. Almaz Capital also participated in the round.

If You Can Company’s game, called If…, is designed for children and aims at improving their emotional intelligence with social and emotional learning techniques. According to the company’s Web site, If… is essentially a role-playing game, requiring children to make decisions based on “real-life relevant situations.”

Hawkins is perhaps best known as the founder of Electronic Arts and is viewed as one of the most prominent figures in the gaming industry. His latest venture is available now in Apple’s App Store.
