Video store chain Blockbuster may be down, but it’s not out. On Friday the company announced a new video-streaming service as part of a larger package with satellite TV provider Dish Network that could eventually take on Netflix.

Dish, which sent the invitation for the press conference, hadn’t offered much detail ahead of time, except to say that it would unveil “the most comprehensive home entertainment package ever.” But considering that the 10 a.m. PT press conference in San Francisco was dubbed “A Stream Come True,” it seemed a very good chance the company would introduce a flat-rate streaming service similar to Netflix’s service.
Dish bought a big chunk of Blockbuster’s assets earlier this year, and according to Bloomberg, the company plans to use those rights to offer a streaming video service to its existing satellite TV customers. And down the road, the company could offer the streaming service to non-Dish customers as well, Bloomberg reported.
CNET’s team in San Francisco was at the event, live-blogging the announcement using the Cover It Live tool. You can catch a recap of the live blog in the CIL module below.
