The 3D bandwagon rumbles on, with Cowon the latest to leap aboard. It’s just announced the Cowon 3D portable media player, a 4.8-inch thingummyjig for watching videos in three dimensions without glasses.
The glasses-free 3D plays 1080p high-definition video — though we don’t know the screen resolution — as well as serving up a diet of music, ebooks and photo slideshows.
The battery gives you up to 10 hours of watching video or up to 45 hours of listening to music. As well as 32GB or 64GB of storage built-in, the PMP lets you top that up with SD and SDHC cards. An HDMI socket means you can pump 1080p video to your hi-def telly.
Glasses-free mobile 3D devices are gathering speed. Futuristic punters in Japan will be able to get their hands on the Sharp Galapagos 3D phone and Nintendo 3DS handheld gaming console next year. We already have the Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W3 camera, and no doubt more three-dimensional devices are on the way. Glasses-free 3D works best on a small screen, but doesn’t scale up very well to television size.
The 3D goes on sale in Korea this month. If you’re planning a trip to Korea any time soon, the 32GB version can be yours for £280, with a 64GB model setting you back £330. We’ll keep you posted as to whether this tri-dee pocket rocket is making its way to our snowy shores.
