Calling all iPhones! Sprint’s iPhone gets Wi

If your iPhone’s signal is too weak to sustain a call, Sprint has the solution for you.

On Wednesday, the carrier started rolling out Wi-Fi calling to four Apple iPhone models: the iPhone 6 , iPhone 6 Plus , iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C .

Wi-Fi calling utilizes the wireless network to place and answer calls rather than the carrier’s voice network.

For speakers, the benefit is two-fold. Wi-Fi calls don’t count against minutes, so those with limited buckets can chat with abandon.

Second, in dead zones where signal is low, but the Wi-Fi network is robust, talkers can easily switch on the Wi-Fi calling mode to start or take a call.

Sprint’s iPhone customers will start receiving the software update as soon as today, though it’s likely you’ll get it “over the next week or so,” according to a Sprint press release.

The move puts the iPhones on a list of more than 25 Sprint handsets to incorporate Wi-Fi calling. T-Mobile also offers the feature, with AT&T and Verizon planning to launch later this year.
