Brit company Kazam announces seven Android smarties

That’s right, seven. If you haven’t heard of Kazam, it’s a new entrant into the smart phone arena. It was started by some ex-HTC execs just a few months ago, and has promised to bring affordable Android goodies to the masses. And now it’s announced its first tranche of handsets.

The jewel in Kazam’s crown is the Thunder Q5. It’s thought to have a 5-inch screen, though its details are yet to be confirmed. Second after that is the Thunder Q4.5, which, as the name suggests, has a 4.5-inch screen. Though its resolution leaves a lot to be desired.

It stands at just 854×480 pixels, which I can’t imagine will look terribly appetising stretched over 4.5 inches. The Nexus 5 is only about half an inch bigger, but manages to cram in 1,920×1,080 pixels.

Under the bonnet, the Thunder Q4.5 has a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. It runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean as well, which isn’t as new as 4.3 Jelly Bean (which itself has since been surpassed by 4.4 KitKat).

So the Thunder Q4.5 isn’t going to set the world alight, but it might be worth a look if Kazam can get the price right. It hasn’t announced pricing yet, so we’ll have to wait and see where it sits.

Kazam makes a big deal of its customer service. If you crack the screen on your device, Kazam will swap it for a new phone, no questions asked. Which is quite handy for a butter fingers like myself.

Kazam also offers a lower-specced range of handsets called Trooper. They range from 3.5 inches up to 5.5. You can check out its full selection on its website.

Is there space for another Android smart phone maker? What kind of price will it need to hit to convince you? Let me know in the comments, or on our Facebook page.
