$100 LG Tribute 5 lets you take selfies with a wave

Boost Mobile today announced it is now selling the LG Tribute 5, an entry-level Android phone designed with the selfie-lover in mind.

Available online and in retail stores, the unit carries a $100 full retail price.

Introduced as the LG K7 at CES earlier this month, the Tribute 5 is an LTE variant of the K7 and caters to a lesser demanding smartphone user. As the first to feature LG’s new “glossy pebble design language,” the handset punches above its weight — if only in the looks department.

The Tribute 5 offers up a 5-megapixel camera on both the rear and front side of the phone. Moreover, the Gesture Shot makes taking selfies easy: place your open hand in front of the camera, make a fist, then open and close your hand twice and the front camera snaps a pic. Plus, the front-facing flash ensures you look great in the process. Other LG enhancements include Knock On, Quick Memo+, and Knock Code.

The phone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop, which is somewhat of a bummer considering 6.0 Marshmallow has been around for more than a couple of months.

In terms of more traditional hardware specs, the LG Tribute 5 features the following:

  • 5-inch display
  • 1.1GHz quad-core CPU
  • 8GB of internal storage
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 2,125mAh battery

Boost Mobile is a prepaid carrier that operates on the Sprint network.
