RIM may have delayed its update to the PlayBook, and be being sued by another tech company (as well as its own customers), but here’s one reason for BlackBerry fans to smile: fresh details on the first handset to run the BBX operating system.
It’ll be called the BlackBerry Colt, according to N4BB, via Recombu, and won’t feature any physical buttons, as you can see on this render.
It’ll look very similar to the Torch 9860, except without the buttons, and be slimmer than Bold 9900 and 9930, with a similar stainless steel bezel unibody. That screen is around 4 inches across, most probably with the same resolution as the PlayBook to make it simple to make apps for both.
Inside will be a dual-core processor. There’s no word on what spec it’ll be, but a single-core 1.2GHz version — just like on the Bold 9900 — was used in the first testing phase. There’ll also be front- and rear-facing cameras, though there’s no word on the resolution of either.
The unfortunately-named TAT transitions coupled in BBX will also be in full effect. Basically this means you can have 3D animations within apps, which creates some pretty cool effects.
The handset is expected to touch down around the middle of 2012. That should give RIM plenty of time to sort out its affairs, including properly compensating its customers following the BBM outage, as well as dealing with those pesky lawsuits.
