BioShock, the wildly popular franchise from video game developer Irrational Games, is coming to Apple’s iOS this summer.
Publisher 2K Games is launching an iOS version of the original BioShock, complete with all of the first-person shooter action found in that title, the company has confirmed. Gamers will play through the game in the underwater city of Rapture and the story will be the same as the original, according to Irrational and 2K.

BioShock is arguably one of the best first-person shooter experiences to come out of the last generation of video game consoles. The game, which launched in 2007, earned rave reviews from gamers and received a score of 9.5 out of 10 from CNET sister site Gamespot.
BioShock is just the latest game franchise to join the mobile fray. As sales of new video games in the US continue to drop, major game publishers are turning to smartphones and tablets for new opportunities. Major titles, like EA’s Madden franchise, have already made their way to mobile devices.
In February, Irrational Games announced it would be shutting down, ending an era for 2K Games and the BioShock franchise. 2K Games is taking the lead on the BioShock iOS development.
BioShock will be available in Apple’s App Store this summer. 2K Games did not give an exact price for the title, but said it will be a “premium priced mobile game.” It will be compatible with the iPad Air, iPad Mini 2, iPad 4, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, and iPhone 5. The game will not work on earlier Apple devices.
CNET has contacted 2K Games for comment. We will update this story when we have more information.
