Best Buy offers $50 gift card with Samsung device purchase

Best Buy plans to offer something a little extra to Samsung mobile device buyers.

Anyone who buys any Samsung Galaxy device from June 26 to July 6 will receive a $50 gift card. The offer includes all Samsung Galaxy mobile phones and connected tablets including the Galaxy S3, the Galaxy S4, the Galaxy Note 2 , and the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0.

A two-year activation is required for post-paid mobile phones and tablets. For mobile activations with a wireless contract, the gift card can be applied immediately to the purchase. For prepaid mobile and tablet activations, the gift card must be used on a future purchase.

Customers will be able to nab the offer at the Samsung Experience Shops in more than 1,400 Best Buy and Best Buy mobile stores, as well as on BestBuy.com. Tablet activations are available in-store only.

The move by Best Buy comes as the tech retailer boosts its focus on mobile devices and other hot areas. The tech retail environment is a tough one, and Best Buy itself has been struggling. To avoid “showrooming,” where consumers check out products in Best Buy stores but then purchase them online for a lower price, Best Buy now matches online pricing. And as part of its turnaround plan, Best Buy also has voiced plans to feature more partners’ products. It recently partnered with Samsung to open minishops within all Best Buy stores, known as Samsung Experience Shops.

Other recent deals offered by Best Buy included a free iPhone 5 through a limited trade-in program.
