Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Active makes waves

2:07

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active owners who bought the phone through AT&T can score a new one in the event of water damage.

AT&T announced the news on Tuesday via the following statement sent to CNET:

Samsung designed and tested the Galaxy S4 Active to adhere to IP67 standards for water resistance (1 meter for 30 minutes). If your Galaxy S4 Active has been damaged due to water exposure, bring it back to an AT&T retail store as soon as possible for a onetime exchange for another Galaxy S 4 Active.

Touted as rugged and water-resistant, the S4 Active is supposed to withstand a dunking in 3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes as long as it’s sealed tight. But reports have surfaced of some phones not surviving after being underwater that long.

The device itself has an internal liquid damage indicator, which is triggered in the event of water damage.

AT&T will replace water-damaged S4 Actives purchased only through its Web site or retail outlets and only for another S4 Active.

CNET contacted AT&T for more details and will update the story with any further information.
