LAS VEGAS–The sequel to LG’s curvy G Flex will once again enjoy wide distribution.

The G Flex 2 , which was unveiled by LG on Monday at its press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show, will be part of AT&T and Sprint’s smartphone line-up later this year. The carriers declined to specify an exact date or pricing.

It’s an important show of faith by AT&T and Sprint on LG’s unique smartphone, which at this point is more an experiment and showcase for its flexible display technology than a blockbuster product. Samsung and LG are working on smartphones that will eventually bend and fold, and the G Flex and G Flex 2 represent the first steps in that direction.

The G Flex 2 offers enhancements over its predecessor, including the latest Snapdragon 800 processor from Qualcomm, a smaller, but more vivid 5.5-inch full high-definition P-OLED display, 32 gigabytes of memory with a microSD slot, a 13-megapixel camera with laser auto focus — first shown off in its flagship G3 last year — and a front-facing 2.1-megapixel camera and a 3,000 mAh battery with fast-charging capabilities. It will run on Android 5.0, also known as Lollipop.

Last year, Sprint was the first to launch the G Flex in the US, with T-Mobile and AT&T to follow.
