Today, Archos revealed its GamePad, a gaming tablet with a 7-inch touch screen.
Not only will the Wi-Fi only device function as a regular tablet, which includes having access to Google Play and its accompanying games, e-mail, the Web, and apps, but it will also have physical control buttons for gaming.
The GamePad will be powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz CPU and a Mali 400 MP quad-core GPU.
It will sport a Micro-USB port and a Mini-HDMI output at the very top of the device, and it’ll include 1GB of RAM and a microSD slot that is expandable up to 64GB.
Craig Terblanche, Archos’ director of marketing, told CNET that the GamePad will be available beginning late October, and will most likely launch in Europe initially.
“The European market is the number one market for the company,” he said. “Europe will see the device first and that could coincide with a U.S. launch.”
While the tablet will ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Terblanche said that if Android 4.1 Jelly Bean retains the same mapping tools and gaming system as ICS, “it’s reasonable to assume that the GamePad will be upgradable.”
Archos stated that the GamePad will be offered for less than 150 euros, or about $188.
