As any company involved in the mobile consumer electronics industry is aware, one of the main areas of focus for new technology is the speed and ease of charging solutions. For iPhones, iPod Touches, and iPads, charging may soon include wrapping your headphones around an inductive charging tower.
According to a new patent discovered by AppleInsider, Apple suggests that by twisting your headphones around a specially designed tower, an inductive receiving coil would be formed.
In an effort to keep the devices small, having a home-based tower may be the solution. The charging tower creates a magnetic field, allowing a current to surge through the coil, thus charging your iDevice.
Though the technology seems to be heading in the right direction, I do not expect Apple to release any charging solutions that are quite as complex as this could be. That being said, solving the power issue is most likely high atop Apple’s priorities as it continues to build its mobile repertoire.
Would you use a conductive charging tower to power your iPhone or iPad? Let me know in the comments!
