Leaked screenshots of Android KitKat have revealed more tantalising details of the hotly-tipped Google Nexus 5, as well as showing how fast the change from Key Lime Pie happened.
We’re hoping to see KitKat in October, a date revealed by the chocolatiers at Nestlé, who lend their name to Google for the next Android update.
Each new Android update is shown off by a new Nexus phone, and the Nexus 5 is expected to show off Android 4.4 KitKat for the first time. The screenshots, spotted by MyCE, reveal the 5-inch screen will boast 1,080×1,920 resolution.
Codenamed the LG D820 or Hammerhead, the leak suggests the Nexus 5 also offers wireless charging.
Before Google did a deal to borrow the moniker of the famous four-fingered chocolate bar, the next update was due to be called Key Lime Pie, and the leak shows a trace of that old nomenclature: the debug button is indicated by an icon showing a slice of tasty green pie.
Ultimately though Google decided to go for a more internationally recognised snack. Nestlé may be well-known for making tasty comestibles, but it’s not so hot on aggressive promotion of powdered milk in the third world and general human rights.
A statue celebrating the KitKat update has been unveiled at Google headquarters, joining previous versions also named after sweet treats: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean.
