Android 4.2.2 comes to HTC One, keeps Sense 5.0

Android 4.2.2 is coming to the HTC One, with some Oners already reporting they’ve received the update. Instead of debuting HTC’s Sense 5.1 UI, it sticks with 5.0, Android Revolution HD reports.

The site has detailed what new features we can expect, so let’s take a look at what’s new.

There’s a new battery icon for starters (which Android Revolution HD seems very excited about). It’ll show how much juice you have left in terms of per cent. To enable it, just head to Settings > Power > Show battery level.

Android Daydream shows off your photo albums while your handset is docked, or gives you the latest news through Google Currents. Do a long press on the Home button, and it’ll double as a Menu button, too. And you can remove all the icons from the dock, which you couldn’t do with Sense 5.0 in Android 4.1.2.

Of course, if HTC’s own Sense UI doesn’t do it for you there’s always the Google Edition HTC One, which runs pure, unadulterated Android. Though it will be US-only “initially” according to HTC’s website. And HTC could pump out just 50,000 of the blighters, leaving them in short supply, if an initial report is to be believed. All of which sounds like a bit of a bummer for us Brits hoping to get our hands on a Google Edition. Fingers crossed HTC finds a way to bring stock Android to current HTC Ones.

Pure Android means your handset will get the latest updates ahead of others. It’ll also be easier to tinker with, if you fancy getting your hands dirty and installing your own ROMs.

A Google Edition Samsung Galaxy S4 is also on the way.

Have you seen the Android 4.2.2 update yet? Is pure Android the way to go? Let me know in the comments, or on our Facebook page.
