Most HTC Desire phones are now running Android 2.2, but the company’s other handsets are still due their Froyo updates. It seems HTC Legend owners mightn’t have much longer to wait, with a recent announcement of the phone’s imminent Android upgrade, but there’s still no sign of anything for the Wildfire.
Back in June, HTC confirmed it was working on Froyo updates for its 2010 models. With the Desire upgrade already rolling out, we have been been waiting patiently on updates for the Legend and Wildfire.
“We know that a number of you have been very vocal about wanting an update for your Legend. First and foremost, we would like to apologise for not responding to your ongoing pleas about the update. But we have been listening,” HTC said in a Facebook post.
The Legend update has been progressing well, according to HTC, and in the coming weeks Android 2.2 should be coming to unbranded Legend phones. But as was the case with the Desire, people with carrier-branded handsets will have to wait longer, as the updates have to undergo an approval process for each network.
It may take a while, but it’s good news for HTC Legend owners, who might have been a little green with envy at the Desire’s upgrade. Although it was a lengthy process and suffered several hiccups along the way, the Froyo update for Desire handsets should now be completely rolled out.
But there’s still no word on an HTC Wildfire update. We have contacted HTC for more information on this, and we’ll let you know when we hear back. Although the Desire took many of the plaudits this year, the Legend and Wildfire are both very decent phones in themselves.
The Legend is a fantastic four-and-a-half-star choice if you’re looking for something with a smaller screen than the Desire, and the Wildfire is a good budget Android device. Android 2.2 will give these handsets a boost in terms of speed and extra features, including Flash capability.
Are you an HTC Legend or Wildfire owner waiting for Android 2.2? Do you think the update has taken too long? Have you been envious of Desire owners receiving the update first? Let us know.
