Amazon offers HTC One M8 at $150 to Sprint, Verizon customers

HTC’s One M8 flagship handset has varied pricing on Amazon right now, and depending on your carrier of choice, you might be able to get a deal.

Customers looking to pick up the HTC One M8 from Sprint or Verizon Wireless can get it for $150 with a two-year contract on Amazon, the e-retail giant’s pages show on Thursday. By contrast, AT&T customers will need to pay $200 on a two-year contract for the same handset.

HTC unveiled the One M8 at a press event last month. The smartphone comes with a 5-inch screen and runs Android 4.4.2 (KitKat). The One M8 is viewed both by HTC and the market at large as the handset that could make or break the embattled smartphone maker.

Samsung owns the lion’s share of the Android smartphone market, and HTC, which has suffered a string of losses, is far behind.

It’s not immediately clear why Verizon and Sprint versions of the One M8 are cheaper on Amazon than the AT&T option. CNET has contacted Amazon for comment on the pricing differences.

Despite the additional cost, AT&T customers can get their hands on the One M8 a bit earlier from Amazon. The e-retail giant is promising customers who buy the AT&T version that they’ll get the handset on Friday. The Verizon and Sprint versions won’t land in customer homes until April 14.

CNET has contacted HTC for comment on the price differences. We will update this story when we have more information.
