Affordable HTC Explorer debuts for global markets

The HTC Explorer made its official entrance into the world today as the company’s most affordable smartphone to date. Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly how affordable, since the company did not disclose the price.

The phone is due out in the fourth quarter for Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, and carriers will obviously have a role in pricing the handset. Vodafone and Three UK have already committed to offering the Android smartphone when it’s available.

The entry-level HTC Explorer offers a 3.2-inch HVGA touch screen, a 600MHz processor, and a 3-megapixel camera. The Gingerbread device also features HTC’s Sense user experience, with a revamped home screen similar to the one shown on the HTC Rhyme. Other specs include Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, USB tethering, 512MB RAM, and 512MB internal storage.

No word yet on whether the Explorer will make the trek to the U.S.
