Computer giant Acer launched its first Windows Mobile smartphone earlier this year, and already, it is expanding its portfolio with an Android handset. The just announced Acer Liquid has impressive specifications, including a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a first for phones running Google’s mobile operating system.
It will also come with version 1.6 of Android, which is an important point as that adds support for the WVGA (800×480-pixel) resolution on the Liquid’s touchscreen 3.8-inch display. All Android phones currently in the market have HVGA (480×320) screens. Another Android phone supposed to come with a WVGA screen is the rumoured Sony Ericsson Xperia X3, but that product has not been confirmed.
Acer showed off the Liquid in Europe yesterday. We have contacted Acer for more information on its availability in Asia and are awaiting a response.
