Yes, you read that right — two huge tablets are in the offing, and they measure no fewer than 22 and 80 inches, respectively.
ViewSonic sent out a teaser for its series of “Touch and Connect” prototypes being shown off at Computex in Taipei, one of which is a 22-inch “smart business tablet monitor”. And from the invite, it looks like it runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich, Engadget reports.
Also on show from ViewSonic will be a Windows 8 multi-touch display (though there’s no word on how big that’ll be), new cloud computing gear, laser projectors and interactive billboards, although that last one sounds like it’s of more interest to the advertising trade than us punters.
There’s no word yet on whether we’ll be able to buy the huge tablet here in the UK, but Computex kicks off on 5 June, so there’s not long to wait for more details.
In other massive tablet news, Steve Ballmer has an 80-inch Windows 8-powered tablet on the wall in his office. And Microsoft is planing on selling the device.
“Steve Ballmer has an 80-inch Windows 8 tablet in his office,” Microsoft VP Frank Shaw told Wired.co.uk. “He’s got rid of his phone, he’s got rid of his note paper. It’s touch-enabled and it’s hung on his wall.
“It’s his whiteboard, his email machine, and it’s a device we’re going to sell.”
Microsoft won’t offer it just yet, but it’s coming, Shaw insists. “It’s not a consumer thing now,” he said, “but we know historically that that’s how all things start. The idea that there should be a screen that’s not a computer, we’ll laugh at that in two years.”
