Verizon on Thursday quietly added a new low-cost Android tablet to its roster. Dubbed the Ellipsis 8, it’s an 8-inch XLTE-ready device with midrange hardware.

Although billed as having a “full HD” display, the tablet has a 1,280×800-pixel resolution. Considerably lower than what you might find from LG or HTC today, this screen resolution is a key reason for the lower price.
For power, the Ellipsis runs an unnamed 1.5GHz quad-core processor, and has a 5.0-megapixel rear camera and a 5,000mAh battery. Verizon plays it close to the vest for a number of finer details, even including the tablet’s manufacturer. A peek at the user manual, however, reveals Quanta Computer as the company behind the curtain, the same company responsible for making the Amazon Kindle Fire tablets.
In terms of software, this Ellipsis tablet appears to run a pretty lean version of Android 4.4 KitKat with a number of Verizon apps preinstalled.
The tablet retails for $250 outright or 24 payments of $10.41 per month. Customers can, for a limited time, scoop up the tablet for $149.99 with a two-year service agreement.
