Surface Pro to arrive in Australia ‘by end of May’

Remember the Surface Pro? Microsoft has promised that it’ll be available before June this year.

The Windows 8 Pro version of Microsoft’s Surface devices hit the US back in early February, but, as yet, Australians haven’t had any news on a local release date or pricing.

We still don’t.

Instead, Microsoft has updated its blog, letting us (and quite a lot of other countries) know that the Surface Pro will “launch before the end of May”.

Locally, Microsoft has no clearer indication of the launch date and no pricing.

Both the Surface RT and Surface Pro have had rocky starts, with sales figures back in January suggesting that RT sales accounted for just 2.4 per cent of the overall tablet market. At the time, IDC’s Ryan Reith said, “reaction to the … Surface with Windows RT tablet was muted at best “.

Similarly, sales figures from March seemed to indicate that Pro sales are cannibalising RT sales, rather than adding to them. In Australia, the Surface RT begins at AU$599.
