In my ongoing search for useful apps to bring to your attention, dear reader, I often come across an iOS app while app hunting on my laptop while my iPhone is in the hands of one of my kids, charging after spending time in the hands of one of my kids, or otherwise out of reach. For those times when you encounter an app in Chrome and your iPhone is not right next to you, there’s Lookmark, a Chrome extension with a companion iOS app that lets you send apps from your computer to your iPhone to install later. It’s much better than my previous solution of leaving Chrome tabs open until I doubled back to my laptop with my iPhone in tow.
After installing the Lookmark Chrome extension, you’ll need to create an account with an email address to get started. You also need to install the free Lookmark iOS app and log into your account.
After setting up your account, when you encounter a page in Chrome that contains a link to an iOS app, Lookmark will display a small bullseye icon in Chrome’s URL bar. Click on the bullseye and then click the Lookmark bookmark icon to save the app. Your list of so-called lookmarks can then be viewed in the Lookmark iOS app. Tapping on a saved app in the iOS app opens the app’s page in the App Store so you can download it.
Apps aren’t removed from your Lookmark list after they are installed; you’ll need to swipe to delete them.
You can also add Lookmark as an iOS share extension, which lets you add apps to your Lookmark list that you find while browsing on your iPhone.
